During the GIE application students will be given the opportunity to apply for a pre-GIE Fellowship. Students will be asked to write a short essay for the Fellowship and the awards can range from $1,000 – $4,000. Funds will be disbursed directly to students to reimburse them for GIE-related expenses. Please note that students who have increased their loan eligibility for GIE-related expenses may have funds returned to their lender to reduce their principal loan amount. EMBA GIE participants are not eligible for these fellowships at this time.

Full-Time MBA students participating in GIEs are considered for funding through fellowship funds donated to Kenan-Flagler. Through the gracious generosity of donors who are focused on providing support to Full-Time MBA students participating in international experiences, each GIE will have the opportunity to acknowledge the excellent contributions of one or two participants. Students who are participating in a GIE will have the possibility of being selected based on a nomination by the GIE faculty lead and staff leader. Students are not required to submit an application for these funds.

The ideal GIE fellowship recipient will stand out amongst his/her peers as an exemplary GIE participant. The award recipient will significantly contribute to the overall group’s GIE experience by demonstrating the following both in pre-departure courses and during the in-country portion of a GIE:

  • Enthusiastic & engaged participation
  • Demonstrates curiosity and timeliness throughout the program
  • Appreciation of diversity
  • Willingness to lead & share leadership

Fellowship recipients who are continuing on as 2nd years will be asked to participate in recruiting events for the next year’s GIE programs.
