Students complete the GIE loan process after being accepted to participate in one of the courses and will be contacted by Susan Brooks with details on the process.

U.S. Citizens & Permanent Residents
MBA students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents can increase their financial aid budget to include expenses related to the GIE. Contact Susan Brooks with specific questions. Expenses related to the GIE that can be included in the financial aid budget include:

  • Course Fee and Deposit
  • International Airfare (receipt of purchase is required)
  • Immunizations required for travel (receipt of purchase is required)
  • Passport/Visa Fees (receipt of purchase is required)
  • Per Diem of $50 per day while participating in the in-country portion of the course

Students who have borrowed the annual maximum Direct Unsubsidized Loan amount of $20,500 as well as either a Direct Graduate PLUS or private loan that covers their entire financial aid budget can borrow an additional Graduate PLUS or private loan to cover their GIE expenses. Students who have not borrowed loan funding that covers their entire financial aid budget can submit the appropriate item(s) for either Direct Graduate PLUS or private loan funding, regardless of the GIE process.

Students who have not borrowed any loan funding can still apply for Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan funding for up to the maximum amount of $20,500 for the year. Begin this process by completing the FAFSA immediately.

Students who have questions regarding eligibility of Veteran’s benefits should contact Karsen Spain

Non-U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents
If you have not already borrowed the maximum amount of the international student loan through Discover Student Loans, then you may be able to borrow funding for the academic year to help offset GIE-related expenses. If, however, you have borrowed the maximum amount, you would not be eligible to borrow additional loan funding for the GIE through Discover but you may consider other loans outlined on our Tuition & Financial Aid website
